“BuildForBharat IoT Startup Challenge” is a joint initiative of STPI & Jio Things Pvt Ltd. (JTL) to encourage start-ups to brainstorm, design and build the next generation consumer/business centric innovative solutions for the next billion.
BuildForBharat initiative empowers startups to build great products and scale their offerings via multiple digital touchpoints on Jio Platforms with the support from best of Jio’s technology, platform, thought leadership, network and people.
Startups will receive mentorship and support around Tech, Product Strategy, UX, GTM, Business Models, Marketing, Monetization Strategy, Product Design, Customer Acquisition, Retention, Growth.
BuildForBharat IoT Startup Challenge will also include deep dive sessions, workshops, one on one mentoring sessions. Basis the top challenges outlined by startups we look forward to pair them with those subject matter experts from Jio and the industry to overcome those challenges.
Who Can Apply
The challenge program invites the proposals/applications from Indian Start-ups who are working in IoT domain. Start-ups registered with DPIIT under start-up India program are encouraged to participate in this program.
The start-up may be a
- Private Limited Company (as defined in the Companies Act, 2013) or
- Registered Partnership Firm (Regd. under section 59 of the Partnership Act, 1932) or
- Limited Liability Partnership (under the Liability Partnership Act 2008)
- Individual Academicians, Researchers, Educators, Entrepreneurs.
The date of registration/incorporation must not be beyond 10 years.
Annual Turnover
Start-up should have an annual turnover not exceeding Rs. 100 crore for any of the financial years since its incorporation.
Original Entity
Entity should not have been formed by splitting up or reconstructing an already existing business.
Innovative & Scalable
Entity working towards innovation, development or improvement of products, processes or services or if it is a scalable business model with high potential of employment generation or wealth creation.
General Guidelines
- The contest is open to all where participants and teams can select problem statements which they wish to solve basis the defined themes.
- Top 20 start-ups will be shortlisted across themes. Every Product Idea and Prototype will be offered mentorship by the respective Product Teams.
- The shortlisted Top 20 start-ups have to be associated with anchor STPI CoE – IoT OpenLab, Bengaluru to avail benefits as per the Terms and Conditions.
- The contest is open to all where attendees and teams can select problem statements which they wish to solve basis the defined themes.
- The infrastructure / software(s) required for compiling / interpreting code solutions shall be borne by the team they represent.
- Language compilers/ interpreters are open source applications that can be downloaded from the internet. Participants will need to submit the source code to a problem only. For example, codes written in Java should be submitted in .java format
- The initiative supports coding in all languages of teams/individuals choice.
- The team can have any combination of people with the maximum members being 4.
- Teams can work on ideas that have already been done. If somebody wants to work on a common idea they should be allowed to do so and should be judged on the quality of their solution. These days it’s hard to find something that’s fully original and teams might not know an idea has been done before anyway.
- Teams can work on an idea that they have worked on before (as long as they do not re-use code).
- Teams can use libraries, frameworks, or open-source code in their projects. Working on a project before the event and open-sourcing it for the sole purpose of using the code during the event is against the spirit of the rules and is not allowed.
- Adding new features to existing projects is allowed. Judges will only consider new functionality introduced or new features added during the BuildForBharat IoT Startup Challenging determining the winners.
- Projects that violate the Code of Conduct are not allowed.
- Teams can be disqualified from the competition at the organizers’ discretion. Reasons might include but are not limited to breaking the Competition Rules, breaking the Code of Conduct, or other unsporting behavior.

Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS) is STPI’s comprehensive incubation scheme which has a vision to drive the rise of India as a Software Product Nation so as to make India a global player in development, production and supply of Innovative, Efficient and Secure Software Products thus facilitating the growth across the entire spectrum of ICT sector as envisioned in the National Policy on Software Products (NPSP) – 2019.
NextGen Start-up Challenge Contest (CHUNAUTI – Challenge Hunt Under NGIS for Advanced Uninhibited Technology Intervention) is a series of online Challenges under NGIS.
STPI has been strengthening the start-up ecosystem, through policies, initiatives, and creation of 360-degree ecosystem. The current digital era where technology adoption has been high in the urban, educated and high to mid income group population, the rural, less formally educated and low-income group population is still in the digital inaccessibility group. The ecosystem trends also clearly highlight that the sectors contributing significantly towards $1 Tn economy focus on the inaccessibility group. It is also seen that physically disabled population also forms a significant share of digital inaccessibility group. The inaccessibility group mostly resides in and around Tier II and III cities therefore the need is for hyper localized digital products/solution. Accordingly, to boost the localized innovations from Tier II & III cities, through CHUNAUTI 4.0 STPI is looking to identify and support promising startup working towards digital transformation & accessible products/solutions enabling equitable & inclusive growth with focus on sectors like Agriculture, Education, Healthcare & Wellness, Banking & Finance, E-commerce, and Environment etc. As in the previous contests, selected startups would be given physical infrastructure, funding assistance, access to networks, connects, learning and resources that are needed to build a scalable, profitable and global business.
WHO CAN APPLY
The eligibility criteria for a start-up to apply in the CHUNAUTI3.0 program shall be as follows:
- The challenge invites the proposals/applications from Indian Start-ups# who are working in domain related to software product development.
- Start-ups registered with DPIIT under start-up India programme are encouraged to participate in this programme.
- Individual Academicians, Researchers, Educators, Entrepreneurs, partnership firms, LLPs may also participate, however, if they are selected then they will have to register as private limited company in a stipulated time (preferably within 3 months).
#At least 51% shareholding with Indian citizen or person of Indian origin. The applicant’s entity should not be a subsidiary company of any foreign corporation.
Note: The Start-ups submitting the proposals/applications can be in any of the following stages.
- Ideation Stage Start-up: An individual or team of individuals has an innovative product idea and wish to focus on developing that idea into a business.
- Validation Stage Start-up: A validated proof-of-concept exists in a way that the prototype is anticipated to be ready in the foreseeable future.
- Early Traction Start-up: The product has been validated and the start-up needs support in establishing itself as a business.
- Scaling Stage Start-up: The start-up has initial revenue from customers and needs support in scaling its business & product portfolio.
Alternatively, the prototype is ready and awaiting testing and validation.

NextGen Start-up Challenge Contest (CHUNAUTI – Challenge Hunt Under NGIS for Advanced Uninhibited Technology Intervention) is a series of online Challenges under NGIS.
Emerge is a challenge program for innovators working on ideas, solutions or products based on Emerging Technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI/ML/DL), ADAS & Mobility, IoT, Silicon Design & Manufacturing (IIoT), Cloud Computing/Big Data/Analytics, 5G & Edge, Blockchain, GIS Mapping & Drones and Robotics & Nanotech.
WHO CAN APPLY
The eligibility criteria for a start-up to apply in the CHUNAUTI3.0 program shall be as follows:
- The challenge invites the proposals/applications from Indian Start-ups# who are working in domain related to software product development.
- Start-ups registered with DPIIT under start-up India programme are encouraged to participate in this programme.
- Individual Academicians, Researchers, Educators, Entrepreneurs, partnership firms, LLPs may also participate, however, if they are selected then they will have to register as private limited company in a stipulated time (preferably within 3 months).

STPI has been strengthening the start-up ecosystem, through policies, initiatives, and creation of 360-degree ecosystem. The current digital era where technology adoption has been high in the urban, educated and high to mid income group population, the rural, less formally educated and low-income group population is still in the digital inaccessibility group. The ecosystem trends also clearly highlight that the sectors contributing significantly towards $1 Tn economy focus on the inaccessibility group. It is also seen that physically disabled population also forms a significant share of digital inaccessibility group. The inaccessibility group mostly resides in and around Tier II and III cities therefore the need is for hyper localized digital products/solution. Accordingly, to boost the localized innovations from Tier II & III cities, through CHUNAUTI 4.0 STPI is looking to identify and support promising start-ups working towards Technology Solutions using high end technology like AI/ML, IoT etc that can ENHANCE experience of Digital India with focus on sectors like Agriculture, Education, Healthcare & Wellness, Banking & Finance, E-commerce, and Environment etc. As in the previous contests, selected startups would be given physical infrastructure, funding assistance, access to networks, connects, learning and resources that are needed to build a scalable, profitable and global business.
WHO CAN APPLY
The eligibility criteria for a start-up to apply in the CHUNAUTI3.0 program shall be as follows:
- The challenge invites the proposals/applications from Indian Start-ups# who are working in domain related to software product development.
- Start-ups registered with DPIIT under start-up India programme are encouraged to participate in this programme.
- Individual Academicians, Researchers, Educators, Entrepreneurs, partnership firms, LLPs may also participate, however, if they are selected then they will have to register as private limited company in a stipulated time (preferably within 3 months).
#At least 51% shareholding with Indian citizen or person of Indian origin. The applicant’s entity should not be a subsidiary company of any foreign corporation.
Note: The Start-ups submitting the proposals/applications can be in any of the following stages.
- Ideation Stage Start-up: An individual or team of individuals has an innovative product idea and wish to focus on developing that idea into a business.
- Validation Stage Start-up: A validated proof-of-concept exists in a way that the prototype is anticipated to be ready in the foreseeable future.
- Early Traction Start-up: The product has been validated and the start-up needs support in establishing itself as a business.
- Scaling Stage Start-up: The start-up has initial revenue from customers and needs support in scaling its business & product portfolio.
Alternatively, the prototype is ready and awaiting testing and validation.

- Seed funding to Start-ups will be against equity participation by STPI or its affiliate.
- Start-ups who are in ideation stage may be selected under pre-incubation programme & mentored for up to six months to evolve their business plan & solution around the proposed idea. Each intern (max 3 interns per start-up under pre-incubation) will be paid Rs. 10,000/- per month for a period of up to 6 months.

“BuildForBharat IoT Startup Challenge” is a joint initiative of STPI & Jio Things Pvt Ltd. (JTL) to encourage start-ups to brainstorm, design and build the next generation consumer/business centric innovative solutions for the next billion.
BuildForBharat initiative empowers startups to build great products and scale their offerings via multiple digital touchpoints on Jio Platforms with the support from best of Jio’s technology, platform, thought leadership, network and people.
Startups will receive mentorship and support around Tech, Product Strategy, UX, GTM, Business Models, Marketing, Monetization Strategy, Product Design, Customer Acquisition, Retention, Growth.
BuildForBharat IoT Startup Challenge will also include deep dive sessions, workshops, one on one mentoring sessions. Basis the top challenges outlined by startups we look forward to pair them with those subject matter experts from Jio and the industry to overcome those challenges.
Who Can Apply
The challenge program invites the proposals/applications from Indian Start-ups who are working in IoT domain. Start-ups registered with DPIIT under start-up India program are encouraged to participate in this program.
The start-up may be a
- Private Limited Company (as defined in the Companies Act, 2013) or
- Registered Partnership Firm (Regd. under section 59 of the Partnership Act, 1932) or
- Limited Liability Partnership (under the Liability Partnership Act 2008)
- Individual Academicians, Researchers, Educators, Entrepreneurs.
The date of registration/incorporation must not be beyond 10 years.
Annual Turnover
Start-up should have an annual turnover not exceeding Rs. 100 crore for any of the financial years since its incorporation.
Original Entity
Entity should not have been formed by splitting up or reconstructing an already existing business.
Innovative & Scalable
Entity working towards innovation, development or improvement of products, processes or services or if it is a scalable business model with high potential of employment generation or wealth creation.
General Guidelines
- The contest is open to all where participants and teams can select problem statements which they wish to solve basis the defined themes.
- Top 20 start-ups will be shortlisted across themes. Every Product Idea and Prototype will be offered mentorship by the respective Product Teams.
- The shortlisted Top 20 start-ups have to be associated with anchor STPI CoE – IoT OpenLab, Bengaluru to avail benefits as per the Terms and Conditions.
- The contest is open to all where attendees and teams can select problem statements which they wish to solve basis the defined themes.
- The infrastructure / software(s) required for compiling / interpreting code solutions shall be borne by the team they represent.
- Language compilers/ interpreters are open source applications that can be downloaded from the internet. Participants will need to submit the source code to a problem only. For example, codes written in Java should be submitted in .java format
- The initiative supports coding in all languages of teams/individuals choice.
- The team can have any combination of people with the maximum members being 4.
- Teams can work on ideas that have already been done. If somebody wants to work on a common idea they should be allowed to do so and should be judged on the quality of their solution. These days it’s hard to find something that’s fully original and teams might not know an idea has been done before anyway.
- Teams can work on an idea that they have worked on before (as long as they do not re-use code).
- Teams can use libraries, frameworks, or open-source code in their projects. Working on a project before the event and open-sourcing it for the sole purpose of using the code during the event is against the spirit of the rules and is not allowed.
- Adding new features to existing projects is allowed. Judges will only consider new functionality introduced or new features added during the BuildForBharat IoT Startup Challenging determining the winners.
- Projects that violate the Code of Conduct are not allowed.
- Teams can be disqualified from the competition at the organizers’ discretion. Reasons might include but are not limited to breaking the Competition Rules, breaking the Code of Conduct, or other unsporting behavior.

Apiary – Centre of Entrepreneurship in Blockchain Technology is a Technology Business Incubator located at STPI, Gurugram. Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) is an autonomous body under Ministry of Electronics & Information technology (MeitY). Apiary CoE has a mandate to onboard 100 start-ups over 5 years.
Objectives: To identify & support potential cutting-edge IT entrepreneurs especially in the field of Blockchain and significantly contribute towards product development, job creation and enhance economic health of the region.

Technology Domain:
The challenge invites the proposals/applications from Indian Start-ups& Entrepreneurs who are working in Blockchain domain.
Company Type:
The start-up must be incorporated as a
- Private Limited Company (as defined in the Companies Act, 2013) or
- Registered Partnership Firm (Regd. under section 59 of the Partnership Act, 1932) or Limited Liability Partnership (under the Liability Partnership Act 2008).
DPIIT Registration:
Start-ups registered with DPIIT under start-up India programme are encouraged to participate in this programme. This is not a mandatory requirement for applying. However, start-ups must confirm to the definition of Start-ups prescribed by DPIIT.
Company Registration:
The start-up must be registered/incorporated within last 10 years as on date of opening of challenge. Individual Academicians, Researchers, Educators, Entrepreneurs, partnership firms, LLPs may also participate. However, if they are selected then they will have to register as private limited company in a stipulated time (preferably within 3 months).
Annual Turnover:
Start-up should have an annual turnover not exceeding Rs. 100 crore for any of the financial years since its incorporation.
Original Entity:
Entity should not have been formed by splitting up or reconstructing an already existing business.
Innovative & Scalable:
Entity working towards innovation, development or improvement of products, processes or services or if it is a scalable business model with high potential of employment generation or wealth creation.
Haryana Registered Start-ups:
Start-ups from Haryana State are encouraged to participate in this program

SELECTION PROCESS
Apiary CoE Selection Process would be organized in three (3) phases: –
- Phase-1: Applications from start-ups are invited through an online contest portal
- Phase-2: Short listing of Ideas, POCs and Solutions having strong potential through initial scrutiny
- Phase-3: Selection of start-ups for this program through pitch-in session.
The final set of companies shall present their business plan to the Start-up Evaluation & Selection Committee.

Electropreneur Park (EP), Bhubaneswar is an ESDM Incubation Centre set up by STPI, with support from Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY), Govt. of India and Govt. of Odisha as part of its PAN India initiative to create a network of Centres of Entrepreneurship. EP-BBSR is equipped with state-of-the-art advanced Lab, plug & play facilities for incubatees in the CoE. EP BBSR brings in a pool of mentors, academicians, investors & consultants in market intelligence with the major focus on patenting, converting ideas into successful products. This will help in accelerating innovation, enabling industry-oriented research and development of the talent pool in the ESDM domain.
Who Can Apply

- All the applications received shall be subject to a rigorous centralized multi-tier screening process with involvement of appropriate experts from respective domain and/or location as deemed fit.
- Decision of the SSEC shall be final & binding on all.

Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS) is STPI’s comprehensive incubation scheme which has a vision to drive the rise of India as a Software Product Nation so as to make India a global player in development, production and supply of Innovative, Efficient and Secure Software Products thus facilitating the growth across the entire spectrum of ICT sector as envisioned in the National Policy on Software Products (NPSP) – 2019.
NextGen Start-up Challenge Contest (CHUNAUTI – Challenge Hunt Under NGIS for Advanced Uninhibited Technology Intervention) is a series of online Challenges under NGIS.
STPI has been strengthening the start-up ecosystem, through policies, initiatives, and creation of 360-degree ecosystem. The current digital era where technology adoption has been high in the urban, educated and high to mid income group population, the rural, less formally educated and low-income group population is still in the digital inaccessibility group. The ecosystem trends also clearly highlight that the sectors contributing significantly towards $1 Tn economy focus on the inaccessibility group. It is also seen that physically disabled population also forms a significant share of digital inaccessibility group. The inaccessibility group mostly resides in and around Tier II and III cities therefore the need is for hyper localized digital products/solution. Accordingly, to boost the localized innovations from Tier II & III cities, through NGIS CHUNAUTI CONTEST STPI is looking to identify and support promising start-ups working towards Digital India enabling Social Empowerment with focus on sectors like Agriculture, Education, Healthcare & Wellness, Banking & Finance, E-commerce, and Environment etc. As in the previous contests, selected startups would be given physical infrastructure, funding assistance, access to networks, connects, learning and resources that are needed to build a scalable, profitable and global business.
WHO CAN APPLY
The eligibility criteria for a start-up to apply in the CHUNAUTI3.0 program shall be as follows:
- The challenge invites the proposals/applications from Indian Start-ups# who are working in domain related to software product development.
- Start-ups registered with DPIIT under start-up India programme are encouraged to participate in this programme.
- Individual Academicians, Researchers, Educators, Entrepreneurs, partnership firms, LLPs may also participate, however, if they are selected then they will have to register as private limited company in a stipulated time (preferably within 3 months).
#At least 51% shareholding with Indian citizen or person of Indian origin. The applicant’s entity should not be a subsidiary company of any foreign corporation.
Note: The Start-ups submitting the proposals/applications can be in any of the following stages.
- Ideation Stage Start-up: An individual or team of individuals has an innovative product idea and wish to focus on developing that idea into a business.
- Validation Stage Start-up: A validated proof-of-concept exists in a way that the prototype is anticipated to be ready in the foreseeable future.
- Early Traction Start-up: The product has been validated and the start-up needs support in establishing itself as a business.
- Scaling Stage Start-up: The start-up has initial revenue from customers and needs support in scaling its business & product portfolio.
Alternatively, the prototype is ready and awaiting testing and validation.

Each intern (max 3 interns per start-up under pre-incubation) will be paid Rs. 10,000/- per month for a period of up to 6 months.

NextGen Start-up Challenge Contest (CHUNAUTI – Challenge Hunt Under NGIS for Advanced Uninhibited Technology Intervention) is a series of online Challenges under NGIS.
STPI has been strengthening the start-up ecosystem, through policies, initiatives, and creation of 360-degree ecosystem. The current digital era where technology adoption has been high in the urban, educated and high to mid income group population, the rural, less formally educated and low-income group population is still in the digital inaccessibility group. The ecosystem trends also clearly highlight that the sectors contributing significantly towards $1 TN economy focus on the inaccessibility group. It is also seen that physically disabled population also forms a significant share of digital inaccessibility group. The inaccessibility group mostly resides in and around Tier II and III cities therefore the need is for hyper localized digital products/solution. Accordingly, to boost the localized innovations from Tier II & III cities, through Chunauti 4.0 STPI is looking to identify and support promising start-ups working towards Smart Manufacturing IT Solutions in emerging technologies like AI in Fintech, IoT, etc. that can ENHANCE experience of Digital India with focus on sectors like Agriculture, Education, Healthcare & Wellness, Financial Services, E-Governance Solutions, Tourism & Hospitality, Cyber Security, Supply Chain & Logistics and Environment etc. As in the previous contests, selected start-ups would be given physical infrastructure, funding assistance, access to networks, connects, learning and resources that are needed to build a scalable, profitable and global business.
WHO CAN APPLY

Accordingly, to boost the localized innovations from Tier II & III cities, through NGIS CHUNAUTI CONTEST STPI is looking to identify and support promising start-ups working towards Digital India enabling Social Empowerment with focus on sectors like Agriculture, Education, Healthcare & Wellness, Banking & Finance, E-commerce, and Environment etc. As in the previous contests, selected startups would be given physical infrastructure, funding assistance, access to networks, connects, learning and resources that are needed to build a scalable, profitable and global business.
WHO CAN APPLY
The eligibility criteria for a start-up to apply in the CHUNAUTI3.0 program shall be as follows:
- The challenge invites the proposals/applications from Indian Start-ups# who are working in domain related to software product development.
- Start-ups registered with DPIIT under start-up India programme are encouraged to participate in this programme.
- Individual Academicians, Researchers, Educators, Entrepreneurs, partnership firms, LLPs may also participate, however, if they are selected then they will have to register as private limited company in a stipulated time (preferably within 3 months).
#At least 51% shareholding with Indian citizen or person of Indian origin. The applicant’s entity should not be a subsidiary company of any foreign corporation.
Note: The Start-ups submitting the proposals/applications can be in any of the following stages.
- Ideation Stage Start-up: An individual or team of individuals has an innovative product idea and wish to focus on developing that idea into a business.
- Validation Stage Start-up: A validated proof-of-concept exists in a way that the prototype is anticipated to be ready in the foreseeable future.
- Early Traction Start-up: The product has been validated and the start-up needs support in establishing itself as a business.
- Scaling Stage Start-up: The start-up has initial revenue from customers and needs support in scaling its business & product portfolio.
Alternatively, the prototype is ready and awaiting testing and validation.

- Digital Products/Solutions to create new — or modify existing — business processes, culture, and customer experiences to meet changing business and market requirements.
- Digital Products/Solutions to enable & enhance everyone to access to digital technologies to achieve digital equity.
- Digital Products/Solutions which help in changing the nation into a digitally enabled society and learning economy.
- Digital Products/Solutions to catalyse inclusion of larger populace under Govt. Schemes/Programs & Benefits (e.g., flagship pension, insurance schemes, etc.).
- Digital Products/Solutions for unique local level problems in particular sectors/domains like aquaculture, agriculture, skill, education etc which leads to social empowerment.
- Digital Products/Solutions to improve health for everyone, everywhere by accelerating the development and adoption of appropriate, accessible, affordable, scalable and sustainable person-centric digital health solutions to prevent, detect and respond to epidemics and pandemics
- Other assistive technology solution addressing a pressing need not covered above.

FINANCIAL INCENTIVES
- A seed funding of up to Rs. 25.00 Lakhs will be provided through Financial Institution to each beneficiary/supported Start-ups selected through CHUNAUTI under NGIS based on innovative idea, novel solutions, strong team & sound business proposal.
- Disbursal of seed fund to Start-ups will be based on milestones achieved, periodic review and recommendations.
- Seed funding to Start-ups will be against equity participation by STPI or its affiliate.
- Start-ups who are in ideation stage may be selected under pre-incubation programme & mentored for up to six months to evolve their business plan & solution around the proposed idea. Each intern (max 3 interns per start-up under pre-incubation) will be paid Rs. 10,000/- per month for a period of up to 6 months.
- Cloud Credits from leading third-party service providers.

Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS) is STPI’s comprehensive incubation scheme which has a vision to drive the rise of India as a Software Product Nation so as to make India a global player in development, production and supply of Innovative, Efficient and Secure Software Products thus facilitating the growth across the entire spectrum of ICT sector as envisioned in the National Policy on Software Products (NPSP) – 2019.
NextGen Start-up Challenge Contest (CHUNAUTI – Challenge Hunt Under NGIS for Advanced Uninhibited Technology Intervention) is a series of online Challenges under NGIS.
STPI has been strengthening the start-up ecosystem, through policies, initiatives, and creation of 360-degree ecosystem. The current digital era where technology adoption has been high in the urban, educated and high to mid income group population, the rural, less formally educated and low-income group population is still in the digital inaccessibility group. The ecosystem trends also clearly highlight that the sectors contributing significantly towards $1 Tn economy focus on the inaccessibility group. It is also seen that physically disabled population also forms a significant share of digital inaccessibility group. The inaccessibility group mostly resides in and around Tier II and III cities therefore the need is for hyper localized digital products/solution.
